Microsoft XP SP2 VIA IDE Driver Bug
Posted by anonymous on September 26th, 2005

On motherboards with chipsets VIA KT133,KT133A and KT266 there might be a
problem with the new Microsoft VIA IDE Driver included in SP2 : VIA PCI
Latency.

The problem is corruption of files and folders with Event ID 55 Message:
"The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable". After
restarting chkdsk founds minor problems in NTFS indexes.
The problem was solved starting with Windows 2000 SP3 until Windows XP sP1
(inclusive).

Now the driver in SP2 has the same old problem.
The temporary solution (until a Microsoft patch) is to apply this patch -

The patch is dangerous to be installed on the systems with Creative
soundcards.
