- partition / boot magic
- Posted by IKE on January 13th, 2006
A while ago I partitioned my hard drive using Partition Magic and tried
(without success) to set up a duel boot system. To do this I had to create a
Fat32 partition to install Boot Magic onto. After a while I decided to get
rid of the Fat32 partition and abandon the duel boot idea. The problem is, I
didn't un-install Boot Magic before I got rid of the partition.
Now I want to try to duel boot again. When I try to run Boot Magic, It is
trying to find where it was installed origionally. My Boot Magic rescue
floppy is long gone.
I have tried to un-install and re-install Partition Magic. I have gone into
the registry and deleted anything that said 'bootmagic or btmagic'. Nothing
seems to work.
Does anyone have any experience in this area? Is it a Master Boot Record
issue and if so, how do I correct this??
Thanks

So whats the problem,do you have unallocated disk space on the drive,if
so format the drive and install the OS.If you must have dual boot, why not
just purchase another hd to host youre other OS,then adjust the BIOS for
dual option.

Yes! It is an MBR problem.
Using a Windows 98 startup floppy, type *fdisk /mbr* (without the asterisks)
when you get to the a:/ prompt. Reboot. This will clear the MBR for you.
