Hi.

I have a brand new Packard Bell Laptop, with a 50GB hard drive.
I need to run different mobile phone software on it and I have been advised
that these do clash when the software of different manufacturers are added to
the same machine.

I therefore want to partition the drive and maybe run two Win XP OS's.
I would for example have the Nokia, Motorola and Siemens software on one
partition and the Samsung and Sony Ericsson on the other.

Would this be the best solution, and how would I go about partitioning the
drive?
I do not mind reformatting as the PC is brand new and does not yet have any
of my data on it.

You'll need to purchase a third-party partitioning program
and a new copy of Windows XP for installation on the new
partition.

You are only permitted to install one (1) copy of Windows XP
on one (1) computer using the Product Key (license). Additional
installations on a different PC require their own unique Product Key.

Please read your End-User License Agreement by going
to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then
click on "End-User License Agreement".

A good third-party partitioning program is Partition Magic 8.

Excuse my ignorance. Why would I need to use a partitioning program?
Can I not format the hard-drive and partition it and install XP on each
partition.

Most people dont want to permanently erase everything on their hard disk
when partitioning. If that's not a problem for you, use your XP CD to format
and repartition your hard disk.

Any idea where I can find information on how to do this?

Where did you get this advice? Have you asked the software technical
support whether this is necessary? Is it perhaps that a conflict will
arise if two are running at the same time?
