- pc takes to long to get going
- Posted by dr tejeda on March 31st, 2006
the pc starts normally and takes me to the user page. once i sign-in and my
desktop is visible it takes very long for the pc to be able to do do any
other operation, it is clear my hardrive is working during this time as if
still starting up(the light is blinking on the from of the PC and I can hear
it). I have gone to task manager and can see the file spoolsv.exe
working until it reaches 63,360 of memory usage, which is when the harddrive
stops going and i can start other operations. If I try to start any program
before that delayed startup they just freeze and tell me they are not
responding.

Go to "run" in the start menu, and type "msconfig." Go to the last tab (to
the right). Deseclect any program you DO NOT want to run, after that restart
your computer.
2nd- get an anti-spyware tool, and if you have one, update and run it!
I REC. AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL (FREE), at lavasoft.com! HOPE THIS WORKS!!!

It could be the swap file activity. Maybe u need to add more RAM? Also
kill all unwanted processes and keep only essential stuff on the
startup list. Check the free space on the drive, if its very low, clear
out ur temporary files, empty the recycle bin etc. How long since u
defragged? Run chkdsk and defrag as well.
