Playing Games with XP
Posted by Karen on April 5th, 2006

I am having trouble playing games. This all started with The Sims2 a while
back. We would be playing and after about 1 hour, the computer would just
restart out of the blue with no warning. It got worse and worse and more and
more frequent. After talking to several people, I determined that it must be
the video card. I bought a new video card. It is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200.
Before I bought it, I checked and it surpasses the requirements for Sims2.
However, it hasn't fixed anything. Now, I can't play hardly any game
(Tradwinds2, Diner Dash, etc.) without the game restarting on me. I have no
idea what the problem is now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried using a program like Speedfan to monitor the temperatures
and voltages of your computer? The games could be placing enough extra
load on the computer for the CPU to overheat and reboot or for the power
supply output to drop causing the same problem.
