Scanner and Camera Wizard
Posted by Rojo on October 11th, 2005

I have Windows XP Pro, fully updated. I recently found a driver for an older
scanner. It works on my computer with Microsoft Office Document Imaging and
with some other programs, but whenever I try to use the Scanner and Camera
Wizard, all I get is a message that the computer cannot detect the camera or
scanner. The scanner appears in the Control Panel Scanners and Camera Wizard
application. I searched the Knowledge Base, but it isn't working correctly.
When I search for exact phrase of text ("The computer cannot detect the
scanner or camera") that I know to be in a Knowledge Base article (264564)
on Windows Me, the KB comes up empty. I need an article that applies to
Windows XP, or any help anyone can give me.

Was the driver you found designated for WinXP? It probably didnt
install properly. Rt click on MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager>Imaging Devices. If there's a yellow mark next to it then the
drivers are not installed.
If not, rt click and select Update driver>Select Install from list or
specific location>Browse to the driver.

Yes, the driver is a Windows XP driver and it did install correctly. There
is no X, !, or ? in Device Manager. If there were, I doubt very seriously
that the scanner would show up in Scanners & Cameras in Control Panel or
work perfectly with other scanning programs as it does.
The Windows Me article says that the scanner uses a Twain driver instead of
the newer type of driver, but as I said, there is nothing in the KB that
addresses this issue in XP.

But thanks for trying.
