I set up daily back up at 1:00 am every night by using Windows XP Pro back
up utility.
Of course, my computer was turned on, but logged off. It did not work.
Should I always log on to run Windows Backup ? Is there any way to run that
without log on?

NTBackup and all other scheduled tasks won't run unless the account used has
a password. Did the account you specified have a password?

backup work when scheduled if you stay logged on? Where were you trying to
backup to? Do you have the computer set to go to standby after a period of
inactivity? Does the device you are backing up to go to standby? There are
several reasons why a scheduled task doesn't run. Look in the event logs and
the scheduled task log to see if an error got logged.

Thanks a lot for useful information.
I checked shedule log, the back up job was completed every night. I thought
it did not happen because the modify date of backup file was not changed.
Still curious why it did not change, but the scheduled job happened
overnight.

Check the Tools ==> Report menu in NTBackup to make sure it actually backed
up something. I would also restore a few files to a different folder and
make sure they are the right files. Create a test file and see if it is in
the next backup.
