Recently, I have noticed that my laptop performance has slowed significantly
in the following respect. When I click on a text file (from windows explorer
or from my computer), it takes about 30 seconds for my text editor (Note Tab
Light) to load the file, whereas if I click on the desktop icon for the
editor, it loads in about three seconds and then I can open the file in
another two seconds. Similarly, if I click on a jpg file, it takes Irfanview
about 30 seconds to open and load the file, but if I click on the Irfanview
icon on my desktop, the app loads in a couple seconds and after I select the
file it loads in a couple seconds. I have noticed similar problems in
clicking and deleting files from windows explorer or my computer. There is
often a 20-30 second lag before I get the 'Are you Sure?' message.

I have checked all of the error logs in eventvwr and see no problems. I
have defragged the disk to no avail. I have also turned off just about
everything possible in msconfig. Any suggestions?
