slow windows xp start up
Posted by ton on October 7th, 2005

Hi,
My start up now takes over 1 min. In System Configuration Devices under
Selective Start up, the o/s start up returns to normal (about 15-20 sec.) if
leaving "Load System Devices" only unchecked. I have tried to run Windows
Installer but it will not start. I have carried out all the instructions in
the Windows XP Q310353 article "How to perform a clean boot" but it doesn`t
say or I don`t know how to find what is wrong with Load System Devices?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi John,
Thanks for the info.
The suggested patch above does not help.
I have (I think) identified the slow start problem as explained below and I
was trying to avoid reinstalling XP.
If by unchecking "Load System Devices" the computer behaves normal, what do
I look for? That is my question.
