- Spoolsv.exe error then windows not loading
- Posted by Mike T on January 3rd, 2006
Had some minor issues weith a mouse driver, re-installed, re-booted PC, then
slow to start, Loading personal setting shown, then desktop wall paper,
further delay then spoolsv.exe error, followed by failed to load catsrv.dll
and inetcom.dll.
Task bar momentarily came up and vanished, no windows icon buttons
work, except Ctrl displays location of mouse cursor.
Have done repair to windows (XP with SP2)using second R option also sfc. I
can get Task Manager on screen and run a task from there ie. correcting date
which had gone back to 01-01-2000 (UK setting), if I try safe mode, same
issues black blank screen displaying in safe mode nothing else, ideas please.

Hi Yogi,
I did not unfortunatly write it all down, but it did refer to "Spooler
Subsystem"
Via task manager I can few everything on the computer, have checked services
settings against my second PC, on Task manager it shows 36 processes running,
at 82% CPU, all files are loading that are shown in msconfig.

Mike,
Try this - Start->run and type services.msc and click on OK in the window
that opens, in the right pane, scroll down and you will find a service by the
name print spooler. Check to see if the statrup type of this service is
automatic or not. If not you need to change it to automatic. To do this right
click on it and click on properties. Then in the startup type drop down
choose automatic and click on apply and then ok. Now restart your computer
and check if the problem reoccurs.
Tell me if this helps

Hi Yogi
Thanks for reply, sorry delay in my reply - group not available for a while.
Spooler is running and on automatic, I can not access anything from normal
desktop, i.e. no start/run, no windows icons on keyboard function, ALL access
has to be via Task Manager.
Unable to run some functions from TM, e.g explore or Find , I have a file
wcntfy.exe running in task mamager which is normally related to security for
windows, but a google search shows a virus/worm also uses this name for
corruption via spooler.
My computer appear if certain items are restricted to stop access. Any other
suggestions please. Thanks

Hi,
It could be a virus/malware causing the problem. Do you still get the error
at startup? What all antivirus/antispyware softwares do you have installed?
Do you know how to use safe mode? If not here's a microsoft link that will
help you to start the computer in safe mode:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us
Once in safe mode do a full system scan with your antivirus and antispyware
softwares. If you do not have these then before restarting in safe mode use
task manager to open internet explorer and use the following links to
download these softwares.
Antivirus
~~~~~~
Antivir: www.free-av.com
Antispywares
~~~~~~~~~
Ad Aware:
http://software-files.download.com/s...&psid=10045910
Spybot: http://betanewsdl.tko.cachefly.net/spybotsd14.exe
Once downloaded restart the computer in safe mode and first disconnect from
the network. Next install the softwares just downloaded and do a complete
system scan using each of them.
After you are through go back into the normal mode and check if you have the
access back on the icons as well as you can see the taskbar. If not download
this wonderful tool to fix the missing taskbar
Taskbar repair tool:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com:80/TaskbarRepairToolPlus!.zip
Unzip it in any folder and run the software.
Tell me if this helps

You are never far from the solution until you stop trying

Hi again Yogi,
Sorry for delay, again user group not showing all time in UK !
I have done all the usual virus and spyware checks including f-prot in dos
mode, nothing found.
Have downloaded the software for task Bar, run it and no change even though
it restarted shell. Internet Explorer will not start via Task Manager, so it
appears that vital windows elements are disabled i.e Shell, Explore and
Explorer, Find and so forth.
If you do think of any more solutions to try I am truely grateful, could you
please copy to my email address dovelea(removethis)@gmail.com just incase I
can not access user group for another 24 hrs.
Again. Thanks
Mike
