- Standby and Hibernate timers dont work on battery power

Hi,
For some reason my IBM notebook doesnt enter standby/hibernation as per the
time specified. After 2 mins the screen goes blank, but after 5 mins,
although the laptop should enter standby, it just stays on. I have tried
switching the times several times, but it hasn't worked.
Please help.
