- Start button slow to appear at start up
- Posted by Bob Day on April 13th, 2006
Windows XP with latest updates on a Dell Optiplex...
This is a recent problem - it use to work fine. When I turn the computer on
or restart, it takes a very long time (10 seconds or more) for the Start
button & task bar (that shows open programs) to appear. The desktop appears
right away as you would expect.
I have run all the tools I have (lastest version sof Nortion System Works,
Virus Scan, Ad ware scan, etc.) but nothing clears up the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

hii, check if too many applications or services are running at startup you
can do this by typing msconfig at the startmenu run command, then go to
startup option in the system configuration utility that pops up and deslect
all the needless items there, these are items placed by different softwares
to help them load faster but they take up memory and time to load at
startup. by disabling them u can save a lot of time and memory activity.
there will be no effect on the most softwares by disabling these options.
Hope this helps...
