State of Computer and System Restore
Posted by DSG on January 21st, 2006

Sorry, I lost that one without a subject
The automatic update for my virus scanner has run amok (two instances of the
download) so that the update will not install, and I am prevented from
shutting down my machine (almost 24 hours now) because the install is not
complete.

Question: Can I be successful, with my computer in this state, to choose a
good restore point and go back a few days before this started?

Hi,

I would suggest stopping the process first. Do a ctrl+alt+del to bring
up Task Manager and click the Processes tab and stop the process that
belongs to the virus application. Reboot the system and try a manual
virus update. What virus application is at fault?

It's the McAfee Server, we found out... started on the 19th and is still not
fixed this evening of the 22 as shown on their website.
I was able to remove mcupdui.exe out of the Task Manager which will stop the
update.- Thanks. In order to be able to shut down the computer, I went to
Services and disabled McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager.
