I need to do a system restore.got a error message saying " the user profile
service failed to login"and dell say its a software problem and need to do a
factory restore.
If I reset the pc will programs like McAfee be lost as this was a package
deal with the pc
I will transfere all programs i need,mostly jpeg etc to an external hard
drive and them set about doing the above.This is all new to me so if anyone
can help or has any other ideas

DO NOT do a factory restore, this will overwrite everything you have and put
the system in the state it was when you bought it.
