system restore

My hard drive on my laptop crashed a day after I backed up. It has been
replaced but I don't know how to restore it using the backup. It is a .bkf
file?

Microsoft Backup has a Restore Wizard.

Is that something I should have on my computer. I did a search and I don't?

How did you make a .bkf file without Microsoft Backup?

I probably sound like an idiot but I don't know. I must have had it before my
hard drive crashed, but I don't know. How do I get it? Shouldn't I have
gotten it back when I reinstalled windows XP. Thanks for your patience.

If you have XP Professional, Microsoft Backup is located at Start > All
Programs > Accessories > System Tools.

If you have XP Home, you will have to install Microsoft Backup from your
XP CD, after which you will find the program in the same location
described above.
