System Restore - Number of Restore Points
Posted by Crazy Horse on February 23rd, 2008

Recently I checked the number of restore points I'd accumulated and
found only 8 extending over the past three days, including today.

It seems to me, in the past, I've seen more restore points extending
further back in time. The slider is set to Max [12%(553MB)]. Perhaps
the issue is that I have a rather small partition, and I'm running out
of room and the system is only going to use 12%, thus affording only a
limited number of restore point.

Any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks.

That sounds likely (just what you said, based on what you said).

At http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../bb264753.aspx I found this
statment: "You also never have to worry about System Restore filling up
your hard drive with these restore points. By default, it only uses a
maximum of 12% disk capacity and has an automatic restore point space
management feature that purges the oldest restore points to make room for
new ones, enabling recovery from any recent undesirable changes."

It seems to me that the "automatic restore point space managment feature" is
not very good sinc your system only retains eight restore points and mine
only retains four restore points, two from yesterday and two from today.

Does anybody know how to adjust this feature, if it can be adjusted?

Hi,

How many partitions is System Restore set to monitor?

And how much free space is there on the Windows partition?
