- system restore problems
- Posted by jsarata on April 8th, 2006
I recently changed HD's in my computer. I've got most of the bugs fixed
except one that I can't figure out. Windows will not let me do a system
restore. If I go try to go to system restore from the the start
menu-accessories-system restore, it gives me the "system restore encountered
a problem and needs to close" you know the one that says "send error report"
or "don't send". I also tried going throught the control panel-system-system
restore, and that said that it folder could not be opened. Any help would be
great. Thanks

To view hidden folders go to the Control Panel/Folder Options, and on the
View tab, set the options so you can see hidden and system files
Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"
Disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file types".
Go to the C:\windows\inf folder and find sr.inf and right click on "install"..
This will effectively wipe out your restore points and reinstall system
restore from scratch..
This should solve the problem..

Wow. Thank you very much. When I went to install, it said it needed the
windows disc w/ serv. pack 2. So I had to use that but it was very easy and
it worked. Thank you very much
