- System Restore reinstalled an update I had uninstalled
- Posted by tlstevens on March 21st, 2006
I had a problem with a program and used system restore to see if I
could fix the problem. When that didn't work I went to the next restore
point in the list. My problem is that it reinstalled windows update
KB912945. I went to uninstall and it is looking for a file that doesn't
seem to exist anymore. The file is plugin.ocx.000. I have tried to
reinstall the update then uninstall but I keep getting the dialog box
looking for this file. I do have a file called plugin.ocx in the
windows folder for this update. Is there any way that I can get this
update uninstalled?

Hi,
Open System Restore and choose the "Undo my last restoration".
Then try installing the kb912945 update. Once it is fully installed, you
should be able to uninstall it.

Will this work even if I did multiple restores without undoing any of
them?

Hi,
If the last restore was what broke the update, then it should work.
If not, try restoring to a point just before the update was broken.
