- USB to Serial Adapter and changing com ports
- Posted by Matt on January 29th, 2008
Hi, I have been trying to connect an older serial device using a USB to
Serial adapter cable. The program requires that the com port setting be com
1 or 2. The USB plugs on my computer are all above com 4. EVerything I've
found on the internet tells me to open the device manager and then go to the
ports tab, and change the setting. However, when I open my device manager
there is no ports option, and the only evidence I can find of com ports in
general is that the modem is on com 3. How can I change this option to make
this program run.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Matt

Matt,
you will find this change option on Device Manager -> Ports (COM & LPT)
Choose your port, then Port Settings Tab -> Advanced , then you will have
possibility to change port number

There is no Ports selection in Vista Device Manager. Where are you finding
that?
