Very large registry file 2.3Gb - need help
Posted by Scanner118 on January 7th, 2006

Hi

This is a WinXP home machine with all updates and patches. Machine is
confirmed virus and spy/addware free but is know to have had a infection in
the past.

The registry is bloated to 2.3 GB and I think it is slowing down the PC.

The first entry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
is a blank folder, if i click on the + beside it, it expands into another
tree identical to the first. I have expanded that folder over 150 times and
it just keeps doing the same. I have tried to delete all the sub folders from
the registry but they just keep coming back.

The key looks like this if i go to the next key after the blank one

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\A pps Management

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
