Video Card Problems
Posted by Venom461 on January 19th, 2008

About two months ago my computer started freezing, then rebooting when I
tried to play a game. It never did this before two months ago, and happens a
few minutes into the game. I have tried to play CounterStrike:Source and
Warcraft 3, both of which have very good graphics. Sometimes the computer
freezes and the screen turns black, then it reboots, while other times the
screen turns blue, and sometimes there are error messages on this blue
screen. Every time I send an error report to Microsoft it says it is caused
by a "device driver." I have updated, rolled back, and deleted and
reinstalled all my drivers, but it is probably the display driver. I have
defragmented my computer, scanned for viruses, and gotten the latest software
updates. Is there any way to fix this problem without replacing parts of my
computer?

If the card never worked properly you might have a defective card or a
resource conflict. Since the card did work fine originally, the most
likely cause is overheating or a fried card. This is a question for you
to ask the card's technical support.

Without you giving us more details on your PC's components (RAM
especialy) and the make of the video card, we can not guide you to an
exact answer.

General recommendations:

1) Power supply should be 400 Watts or greater
2) 1 GB of RAM should be stable
3) Video card should be either ATi or nVidia based since most games
are written with these two video card manuafcturer in mind.
4) Close all "extra" applications that are opened before starting any
game. Only keep "minimum" number of applications required to play the
game(s).
