Running XP Pro (in NTFS drives), Shadow Copy keeps causing failures in
NTBackup - if Shadow Copy is disabled, NTBackup works fine. I've scanned the
MS groups and found many problems with Shadow Copy, and when solutions are
found, they seem to be very complicated.
The MS Knowledge Base offers more (also very complicated) advice but mostly
for Windows Server stuff. The only information I gleaned about what Shadow
Copy does (from this group) said that it allows open files and files in use
to be backed up.
So: if you close down all programs before running NTBackup, what's the point
of Shadow Copy? On my wife's laptop Shadow Copy has to be disabled before
starting the backup, so can that cause problems? Or can we just keep on
truckin'?
Cheers,
Chris
