Hi,

The advantage of using either a wired or wireless is to share a high-speed connection with
the protection of a built-in firewall.

Why you should use a computer firewall

To keep it easy, a router routs the signal from one source (you cable
modem, for ex) to one or more computers. Most routers can act as 'hardware
firewall' as well. Plus, you can increase your security via router software
setup. Then, you need to connect the router to each computer - either
wireless (WIFI) or via ethernet cable; for that, you computer must have
either onboard ethernet or WIFI or you have to buy a card.
More at linksys.com or netgear or others.
