What is my computer working on when I'm not working on it?
Posted by lauriecy on November 7th, 2005

When I leave my home computer and come back several minutes later, my
screen has shut off but my computer seems to be working feverishly away
on something.

It is connected to a wireless home network with a DSL modem. Before I
walk away from it, I close all programs and internet windows. What can
it possibly be doing when it should be idle?

Hi

If the hard disk light is on continually on, check that the Indexing Service
isn't running.

I don't know what that means. Also, when I move the mouse or press any
key, the monitor comes back on and my computer stops doing whatever it
was it was doing.
