- "Windows can't find" error message

When double clicking on a file on my Desktop (and other places) Windows XP
shows a "Can't find file" error message, and then it goes ahead and finds the
file anyway without any problems. How can I stop this unnecessary message
from coming up?

It appears that the files pointed by shortcuts got moved. Default behavior of
the OS isto search the file and launch it.
