What program that uses the windows installer is giving you trouble.. find it
and then run

Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. read the caveats

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

You will then need to re-install the program...

Hello,
Window installer will not cancel or cease to run. I tried to unload the
program it is trying to install as well as try to load the window installer
utility program but I am prevented from loading or unloading any other
software while windows installer is running.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,

Download the latest installer package v3.1 & save to desktop. Then go to
run,type:msiexec /unregister Return to run,type:msiexec /regserver
Then open the download.

Hello,
I tried this; after run, type: msiexec /unregister I get the message "another
installation is already in progress..." as windows installer is currently
running, and there is no way to stop it. Somehow the solution seems to be to
stop installer before I can resolve or fix the problem.

I have been searching for a fix to this error as describe in this post
for a looooooong time. Reloading the server was not an option and we
were just dealing with it. I ran msiexec /unregister and my problems
went away. I'm going to include the error I was getting so hopefully
this will help the next guy. One note I am using Win2000.

error number: 0x80040706
