- Windows maintenance + people needed

Hi. My chieft asked me the following question: "how many IT maintenance
people do we need for X computers?"
Is there any standard?
Our company has 1000 users (aprox) grouped in 250 computers; this PCs have
Win98 or WinXP or installed, all of them with the traditional software
(Word, Excel, etc).
Can you point me in some direction?

No, there is no standard, because the number of support people needed is not related to the number of computers being used.
The extent of support is related to such factors as what software is being run, how is the network configured, how much security is needed, how sophisticated are the users, what type of hardware is being used, etc. etc.
