- Windows XP: FilesNotToBackup and KeysNotToRestore
- Posted by Sunil Abhyankar on May 28th, 2008
Hi,
I have a specific need to not have System Restore restore certain registry
keys and files. I find that FilesNotToBackup (and therefore restore) is
honored, but the registry keys mentioned in KeysNotToRestore get changed.
I have been specifying the keys in
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestor e. Is this the right
place? I noticed in one of the web pages from the System Restore program
manager, theres a reference to CurrentControlSet001. I thought it to be a
typo. Am I wrong?
Also on Windows Vista, FilesNotToBackup is now advisory only and should I be
setting the value in FilesNotToSnapShot?
Regards,
Sunil
