Windows XP repair reinstall problem
Posted by bug on January 6th, 2006

I restarted my computer yesterday because it was being slow. When Windows xp
home edition was trying to load, the computer indicated that it couldn't
continue and whether I wanted to go into safe mode or use the last
functioning configuration. I selected safe mode, but it didn't ever get there
and asked me the same question, so I selected to use the last functioning
configuration. At which point it tried to load Windows again. This time a
BSOD appeared indicating a checksum error, with stop:c0000221 and
olecli32.dll. Rebooting only led to the same BSOD. I searched for info online
and found that you can download .dll files, so I did and put it on CD and
tried to restart with the disk in place, rebooting using the HD first,
followed by the CDROM drive and vice versa (changed it in BIOS). Neither way
worked.
I then decided that I should run the repair reinstall from my Dell Windows
CD. It started fine and then when it indicates 34 minutes left in
installation, in the insatalling devices section, it goes to another BSOD
indicating BAD_POOL_CALLER and stop:0x000000c2, and lists 4 different 0x's in
parentheses (the first three are always 0x00000007, 0x00000cd4, 0x00340045,
and 4th one that changes each time I reboot). When I reboot, it goes back to
continue Windows xp installation, but then again at 34 minutes left goes
through the whole process again of trying to go through the windows
installation and giving the error message.
What should I do next? I don't have a spare HD to test out and I don't want
to lose any data on the HD drive I have in the computer (assuming it's still
there). Can I use the old HD as a slave to a new one? Should I get a new HD?
HELP please.
Thanks,
M.
