Some months back, I had a young "computer expert"play with my computer. I had
told him I usually only play solitaire and get my e-mail with the machine and
that I was known as the Solitaire Queen by my husband. A day after his visit,
when I booted up my computer, just after the "Flash" message that windows was
loading, a window displaying the following appeared: DJ & Solitare.
This was on a line at the top of the window. Below it, the message appeared:
The Solitare Queen Returns.
Below that was a box with "OK" in it.
The windows loading process stops until "OK" is checked. This slows down the
boot up process. I know it's not a virus because I have run several virus
programs and no virus is reported. I contacted his mother and she said he had
told her he modified the registry to insert that message. Unfortunately, he
has moved away and I have no idea where that registry entry is. Can anyone
help me remove this minor annoyance?

Use Autoruns to find any unwanted start ups!

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting,
or you can can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck
you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than
editing the Registry. Another useful feature of the programme is that
you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information
about the item selected.

textual field anywhere. If found, export the key to a safe place (just

In Autoruns you can select File, Find and search for words. I suggest
you search on

Solitare
Solitaire
Queen
DJ

If you get a result post the details.

I suggest you do not take up the other suggestion concerning searching
the Registry. What you are looking for is a script putting up the
message on Start Up. It was obviously meant to be a joke but clearly it
is no longer funny.

As I understand it deleting the entry using Autoruns deletes the source.
You will certainly not subsequently see an error report in Event Viewer
afterwards. Autoruns is the way to get rid of those Not found messages
in Event Viewer!

Direct editing of the Registry by an inexperienced user is fraught with
danger.
