Word 2003 is very slow opening and closing

All suggestions found so far were tried, except turning off spell correction.
Small improuvment. No visible spyware under McAfee and Microsoft antispyware.
Now what? uninstall anr re-install word 2003? It happens with longs or small
files.

How are we supposed to know what "all suggestions found so far" includes?

One thing that can do this, is the presence of Open Office file
associations - they can slow down the File Open dialog box, etc.

If so, try removing Open Office file associations.
