XP Memory Manager does not use unused phyical memory first!!!

The XP Memory Manager does not use "unused(free) physical memory" before
using the page file on the hard drive. Is there a registry setting I can use
that will modify that?

How did you arrive at that astonishing conclusion?

And what is the XP Memory Manager? I'm not familiar with it.

He probably looked at the Task Manager and found he has plenty of free RAM but
non-zero page file use for virtually every running process. For example, I
currently have over 1.3 GB free RAM, but the page file use is over 500 MB right
now.

The "XP Memory Manager" is the sum of the routines built into the XP OS to
manage physical and virtual memory usage. You can note the reference to such
memory management in Control Panel | System | Advanced | Performance | Advanced
| Virtual Memory | Change

So, now that YOUR questions are answered, how about either providing a real
answer or admitting you don't know jack.

It controls how memory is used, etc. I've been watching counters in the
Performance Window. I have years of experience with W98.

Google for DisablePagingExecutive

It's a registry setting that determines whether XP should page the XP kernel
or not.
That's about the only XP memory tweak i know!

http://kadaitcha.cx/performance.html

Scroll down the page to Tweak #5: Memory Management and Processor
Scheduling.

I'm already using that setting.

It's strange that one has more control over memory management under W98(the
operating system for home users) compared to Wxp(the O.S. for Professionals)!

Why isn't there a Wxp Registry setting such as ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1
which I use under W98?

Dunno... I haven't tried any registry tweaks for this purpose, though I might
try out the kadaitcha tweak...

"I have years of experience with W98."

How nice. However, this is Windows XP.

Was that necessary Ted? Neither was John's cut at you either, but
discounting someone's experience in their face is no better than John.
