How much physical RAM will XP support? My computermanufacturer says 2.7GB,
but the MOBO manufacturer says 4GB!
TIA for any info...

Hi,
WindowsXP supports up to 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM.
Point your computer manufacture to this article.
Processor and memory capabilities of Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
and of the x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003

According to the MCSE Training kit put out by the Microsoft press for Windows
XP Pro- the minimum is 64 MB (128 Recommended) and the maximum is 4GB.
You might want to check with your computer manufacturer and see if that is
really a hardware limit of the computer.
I hope this helps.

XP will support up to 4GB of RAM. However, you're dealing with
virtual memory. A machine with 2 GB of physical RAM can still
give you 4 GB of virtual memory. But, the more physical RAM, the
better.
4 GB of virtual memory is divided into the upper 2 GB for the OS
and the lower 2 GB for the application. The app will never be
able to access all of its 2 GB for a number of reasons. There is
something called the /3GB switch that can be used to force the OS
to use the upper 1 GB and give the app the lower 3 GB. This has
to be set in the boot record. Using this switch will probably
allow the app to access around 2.7 GB IF the EXE image has a flag
set that tells it it can do this. In many cases this isn't a
good idea because the OS now has less space for caching. Google
for "/3GB" and "LARGEADDRESSAWARE".

Bert
Are all computers sold with two processors? The motherboard may
accommodate two but does that mean a computer manufacturer is
obliged to install two?
Isn't it possible ( probable? ) that 998R is misinterpreting a
statement by the manufacturer as to what has been provided for
what might have been provided?
Has 998R asked the computer manufacture the right question?
