XP & Vista swapfiles on separate disc
Posted by DrTeeth on April 2nd, 2008

Is there really some performance increase to be had by having the swap
file on a separate hard disc?

TBH, I did not notice much difference when I tried that configuration
in the past, but them again, I tend not to hammer my physical memory
to zilch.

With contemporary hard disk technology I do not believe you will notice
any difference at all in performance or reliability.

TBH, that is my gut feeling. It seems to be one of those oft given

clearing out the prefetch folder <rolls eyes>).

Thanks.

At one time, years ago, that was probably good advice (for the
technically inclined.) We have to keep up with the times. ;-)

Possibly, if it's on a separate *physical* disk. No, if it's on a
second partition on your only physical disk.

But if you have enough RAM so that the swap file is hardly ever used,
it makes very little difference where you put it.
