- Creative PMC battery problems
- Posted by Dana Cline - MVP on November 4th, 2005
There have been numerous reports in the last few days that the batteries on
Creative PMC's are having problems. In some cases, the battery case expands,
making it difficult or impossible to remove the battery from the unit. In at
least one other case, the battery exploded, ruining the screen and the
electronics. If you own one of these, check your battery for swelling...

Thanks Dana - yes I had this problem a month ago.
The battery needs to be charged regularly and kept charged, or it seems to
build up some pressure inside the case. The main tip I'd have is not to
leave it discharged for more than a week or two - if you're going away,
charge it fully then pack it, making sure it's turned off.
Mine didn't explode <phew !> but as you say, it's *very* hard to get the
back off when it's in this state. Most people have no need to remove the
back - I did because I needed to access the 'reset' button. So just charge
it for a couple of hours then let it settle in - try to remove the back the
next day, and it ought to be fine.

Apparently also putting the battery in the fridge helps return it to normal
size. Still, this is a problem with these units and Creative should replace
the battery with a better one...
