- 25-Pin Male to 25-Pin Male for Epson Printer TM-T888 IV
- Posted by jawadh@gmail.com on May 26th, 2008
Hello,
I am trying to install this printer to my main computer. It came with
a serial port to be connected to my computer. Unfortunately, my serial
port is being used by another printer. So I went on and bought a Male-
to-Male 25-Pin parallel port (It is also a male connector into the
printer).
When I plug it in, it doesn't seem to work. I tried all the drivers. I
am beginning to think I cannot connect a Male-to-Male 25-pin parallel
port to each other. Is this true? If not, what am I doing wrong? Every
time I try to "test "print" it it always says Out Of Paper (After
about 2 minutes), The paper feeder works and its full..What gives?

Do you have any documentation that supports that the printer interface
is indeed a parallel port? There are other 25 pin interfaces/ports.

Just reread your post. You have a serial port on the printer and you
expect a parallel cable hooked to a parallel port on the computer to
properly make the printer go?
Go back to square one. Get a serial port card for the computer and try
again.

There are several 25-pin M-M cables, some are 1-1, some are crossovers,
and of the crossovers several types, some jumper handshake lines
to emulate a modem, others link them correctly (sometimes)
to pass RTS-CTS flow control handshaking. So you
may in fact have a serial printer, or possibly as you seem to
think a parallel printer with a serial port connector (most
unusual) as parallel printers were almost universally a
Centronics connector. You need the manual, or at
least find the spec. online, try Google.

Just checking - the printer has a Serial port ? And you are trying to
connect this serial port with the parallel port of your computer?
If that is so then it simply will not work. Even if both ports are
serial then it is unlikely that a parallel port cable will be
correctly wired to work. Serial ports need the right pins connected
and a manual would tell you which ones.
What gives is that the wrong signals are being sent to the wrong
places.

They do make Centronics parallel port to serial port cables for people to
use an old printer with a newer computer... just the same as they make a
parallel port to USB cables for this same reason. try buying one of these
printer cables. It's the easiest method to use to make an old serial printer
work with a parallel port on a computer. They also make USB 1.1 to 9 pin
serial port cables.. the cables come with the proper software to make the
computer talk to the old printers with the special cables... you might want
to look up this info before attempting to connect things together you
shouldn't.

http://pos.epson.com/products/TM-T88IV.htm If so, take a look at the
Connect-It Modules link on the left side of the webpage. The parallel
version uses a 36-pin connector. The Serial RS-232 interface product data
sheet shows a DB-25 connector being used. A DB-25 connector can be used for
either serial or parallel (usually parallel printers) applications. It
appears you are attempting to connect your printer's serial DB-25 port to
your computers DB-25 parallel port. As you have found out, it just will not
work this way as the pinout signals are very different.
You might check on installing a serial controller card into your computer
such as this one: http://sewelldirect.com/serialdb9db25pci.asp Next you
will need to use 25-pin parallel cable and gender changers as necessary.
You may need a gender changer as well.
As an alternative, perhaps you could check with Epson about purchasing a USB
Connect-It Module and install it into the printer.
