2nd network printer on a router
Posted by Couper on March 12th, 2008

I want to add a second network printer (HP L7580) to a Linksys SD2008
router with a HP 5550n, so I plug in the printer (L7580) ran the
software and nothing. The printer works with a USB connection. I did not
set up the 5550 which is already on the network and accessible to
everyone. So what I'm thinking is that I need to manually config the
L7580, since the print out of the 5550 say it was manually configured?
So I would use the same IP info then run the software again?

Thanks

Subnet mask and Default Gateway appears to be wrong. Both should be

As for the Linksys, the web site states that the SD2008 is a switch
and not a router. It does not have a USB port.

the subnet and the default gateway are correct. I can print to the first
printer with no problems. I'm trying to setup the 2nd printer on the
switch via built in ethernet as the first printer is setup. I can not
auto-acquire an ip address which is the base of the problem.

Printers, routers and servers should not get IP addresses auto-assign
(acquire.) These should have IP addresses "assigned" directly into
their configuraations (static) so that you can always find them. DHCP
assigned IP addresses shoiuld only be used on PCs / device which no
other network device is relying on.

As for the sub-net masks, since the two are currently in the
10.118.160.xxx range, they should the the same.

Default gateways usually refer to the Internet access IP. Unless you
have "special" requirements, there is usually only one Internet access.
