Please tell me about pros and cons of the following A3 printers
a) HP 9300
b) HP 1700
c) HP 1220
Does any of the above handle canvas?
How important are the differances of the above as far as ink consumption?

good photo printer if you are careful with choice of paper and setting up. I
have used it for exhibition photos with good results. Also very reliable
general purpose printer. Current pricing makes it very good value for money
for an larger format (A3+) printer. Marks out of 10 = 7/10
On the -ve side :-
# It only has three colors CYB - no light magenta or light cyan - not quite
perfect photo gamut reproduction. This makes it lose out against a true
photo printer, say the Canon i9100 which I have recently bought (really
excellent photo printer but twice the price of the 1220).
# Over time it develops some feed problems on thicker paper - even if you
set for thick paper - the rollers get polished and dont feed - there may be
a service kit or solution for this.
# Relatively high cost cartridges - although I refill and keep them well
topped up and cost down.
# Sometimes can get misfeeds and printer carries on printing without paper
under jets - gets ink all over the place !!
hope you finfd this useful.

A first suggestion is the HP 1700.
There are other aspects that render an Epson plotter a better choice.
