- adding a PostScript module to a LaserJet
- Posted by jeanlutrin@yahoo.fr on May 1st, 2005
Hi,
I've got two HP LaserJet 4M+, which I like very much
and are still working fine.
Recently, I've bought an LaserJet 4+ (which I'm waiting
for). It's not an 'M', and it doesn't have the PostScript
module.
I've got some questions:
1. are those two printers (the 4+ and the 4M+)
exactly the same, besides the fact that the 'M' has
got a PostScript module?
2. are the toners identical?
3. which PostScript module exactly am I looking for if
I want to add PostScript to the 4+ ?
Thanks a lot for any help,
Jean

The 'M' also normally has a network card; they were originally marketed

parallel port.
Yes. 92298A or 92298X (latter is high capacity).
You need a module for the 4+. The module for the 4 will *not* work. The
HP part number is C3129A. If the printer doesn't have much memory,
consider some more (but the PS option does take one of the four slots).

Yes, all you have to do is add the PostScript module. They are readily
available for a few bux on eBay.
Also, there was a PostScript emulation available instead of genuine
Adobe. HP always sold only the genuine Adobe. I have no experience
with he emulation one, so I don't know if there were ever any problems
with it. Mine had the genuine Adobe.
