Just two sets of aftermarket ink in my iP4000/iP5000 cartridges and I've

That statement is pure bullshit from you. Printer prices are about 1/2
what they were less than 5 years ago.

Printer supplies never have, never will go down in price simply because
ink (and paper) are OEM "cash cows". This part they won't share with
you. But printer makers are MORE than willing to let their printers go
at under, at, or near cost price if there is even the slightest glimmer
of a chance of making a sale in the hope that the buyer will come back
to them for their expensive "couple of tablespoons" of OEM ink.
Fortunately, we still live in a free, commercial world were we can shop
around for alternative inks and papers. Yes, shop around, get the best
ink at the best price. And anyone who doesn't agree with me, can lump
it. I don't go out of my way to advertise any specific brand, but anyone
out there only has to ask.

Not so. If either of my suckers fail in the next two years, for any
reason, I'll get the latest printer. It's not a repair contract, it's a
replacement contract.

Two sets of OEM ink costs about $225 Canadian. A new printer WITH a full
set of cartridges costs much less.

When I say shop around for the best ink and price it's not to be taken
literally - meaning you don't have to check EVERY ink sold on planet
Earth. Simply find something you're happy with and is priced reasonably.
And right now I'm the happiest man this side of the universe. The ink
is excellent, colors are fine, and my printers perform magnificently.
And best of all, I like the price, something like 1/10th the cost of
original ink.

I couldn't give a shit where it comes from or who made it. We're talking
about an easily replaceable printer, not an investment that cost me my
life's savings. The printer costs almost as much as OEM ink. If the ink
is considered a routine consumer replacement item, then so is the
equally priced printer. It can be replaced just as easily if necessary.

My practices work to perfection. I'm saving hundreds, you're not.

NOT for these printers. They are both original issue.

The one that failed was on an i860, and it failed in under 2 months. It
was a bum Canon OEM part. A new printhead was bought and the SAME ink
was used on the new head with no problems. In fact I printed 10 80-page
booklets (8 months later), containing about 100 photos and text. Lots of
magnificent color at the HIGH quality setting before Christmas with no
problems at all (same ink, of course). So we know it wasn't the ink.
That printer, fully working, is now in long term storage as I have no
work for it. I should probably put another printer in storage, but what
the heck, they're not costing me anything to run. And the longer I keep
them in full operation, the more foolish you look with your fake claims
that the ink will ruin the printhead. Poppycock, I say and have proven.

Once again, your lies will not work with me. I have the facts, I have
the experience, I have the test results. You have absolutely no facts,
no experience and even less credibility. WHAT do you offer this
newsgroup besides your lies? Nothing. Indeed, you are a liar liar, and

Taliesyn - I think we have misunderstood MK with all these highly
educational all-caps posts. On closer examination of this post I believe he
is addressing one of two possible points. He either means that (1) my
i960, which probably weighs about 6 or 7 pounds' should be replaced by an
inkjet printer that weighs in excess of 100 pounds (a very, very heavy
printer) to avoid clogging with aftermarket inks, or, on the other hand,
since I only weigh about 175 and am 6 feet tall perhaps (2) I need to start

you will go back in your shrinking OEM corner, mull over your dire
situation and basic argument, and decide that maybe people who use their

A very very "heavy" printer is 2767A by Dataproducts, which I believe
was sold by HP. 160 pounds for something that wasn't more than 2feet
wide.
