AFTERMARKET INK
Posted by measekite on April 15th, 2006

IF A USER DOES NOT USE FACTORY OEM OR FACTORY RECOMMENDING INK IN THEIR
PRINTER AND THAT INK CLOGS OR IN ANY OTHER WAY DAMAGES THE PRINTER THE
MANUFACTURER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE TO SERVICE THAT MACHINE UNDER THE WARRANTY.

AND THAT IS GOOD. THERE IS NOT REASON WHY ALL OF THE USERS HAVE TO PAY
MORE FOR PRINTERS AND SUPPLIES BECAUSE A FEW HACKERS TRY TO BEAT THE SYSTEM.

They will probably save a huge amount of money. :-)

Who cares. I don't even bother with warranties any more other than an
extended service contract from the dealer. I get a brand new printer if
it fails after the warranty period.

Just two sets of aftermarket ink in my iP4000/iP5000 cartridges and I've
saved about $225 Canadian. That's $225 dollars, or 22,500 pennies.....
Hmmmmm..... maybe I wasn't listening. Tell again why I should buy OEM
ink ;-).

Yes, saving money is good. I'm glad we agree. OEM "hands-in-my-
pocket, hands-in-my-pocket" IS NOT GOOD.

That statement is pure bullshit from you. Printer prices are about 1/2
what they were less than 5 years ago.

Printer supplies never have, never will go down in price simply because
ink (and paper) are OEM "cash cows". This part they won't share with
you. But printer makers are MORE than willing to let their printers go
at under, at, or near cost price if there is even the slightest glimmer
of a chance of making a sale in the hope that the buyer will come back
to them for their expensive "couple of tablespoons" of OEM ink.
Fortunately, we still live in a free, commercial world were we can shop
around for alternative inks and papers. Yes, shop around, get the best
ink at the best price. And anyone who doesn't agree with me, can lump
it. I don't go out of my way to advertise any specific brand, but anyone
out there only has to ask.

happily)

I buy aftermarket ink and have zero aggravation except for the trolls in
the newsgroup that are jealous.

How does it cost MORE if every refill of OEM carts costs $125, which I'm
NOT spending. I've been using aftermarket inks for over 16 months in my
iP5000 with the same printhead and no clogs. No clogs, just like you're
getting with OEM ink. And I'm not a heavy user (not that it make any
difference at all, I've been both. Now it's just a couple of sheets a
week as I'm not doing any personal project. I know 2 sheets may sound
like a lot to you 'cos I just read earlier that you only printed 1 sheet
per year. Why don't you just get a typewriter? . . .

Which obviously rules you out, if anyone's read any of you posts . . .

A typical grade school response from a troll.

Not so. If either of my suckers fail in the next two years, for any
reason, I'll get the latest printer. It's not a repair contract, it's a
replacement contract.

Two sets of OEM ink costs about $225 Canadian. A new printer WITH a full
set of cartridges costs much less.

When I say shop around for the best ink and price it's not to be taken
literally - meaning you don't have to check EVERY ink sold on planet
Earth. Simply find something you're happy with and is priced reasonably.
And right now I'm the happiest man this side of the universe. The ink
is excellent, colors are fine, and my printers perform magnificently.
And best of all, I like the price, something like 1/10th the cost of
original ink.

I couldn't give a shit where it comes from or who made it. We're talking
about an easily replaceable printer, not an investment that cost me my
life's savings. The printer costs almost as much as OEM ink. If the ink
is considered a routine consumer replacement item, then so is the
equally priced printer. It can be replaced just as easily if necessary.

My practices work to perfection. I'm saving hundreds, you're not.

NOT for these printers. They are both original issue.

The one that failed was on an i860, and it failed in under 2 months. It
was a bum Canon OEM part. A new printhead was bought and the SAME ink
was used on the new head with no problems. In fact I printed 10 80-page
booklets (8 months later), containing about 100 photos and text. Lots of
magnificent color at the HIGH quality setting before Christmas with no
problems at all (same ink, of course). So we know it wasn't the ink.
That printer, fully working, is now in long term storage as I have no
work for it. I should probably put another printer in storage, but what
the heck, they're not costing me anything to run. And the longer I keep
them in full operation, the more foolish you look with your fake claims
that the ink will ruin the printhead. Poppycock, I say and have proven.

Once again, your lies will not work with me. I have the facts, I have
the experience, I have the test results. You have absolutely no facts,
no experience and even less credibility. WHAT do you offer this
newsgroup besides your lies? Nothing. Indeed, you are a liar liar, and
most likely, with pants on fire.

Taliesyn - I think we have misunderstood MK with all these highly
educational all-caps posts. On closer examination of this post I believe he
is addressing one of two possible points. He either means that (1) my
i960, which probably weighs about 6 or 7 pounds' should be replaced by an
inkjet printer that weighs in excess of 100 pounds (a very, very heavy
printer) to avoid clogging with aftermarket inks, or, on the other hand,
since I only weigh about 175 and am 6 feet tall perhaps (2) I need to start
supersizing to a couple of double whoppers, a double order of fries, and a
chocolate shake every day for lunch. When I blow up to about 275 pounds I
wll then be a "very, very heavy printer." I fear that we've alienated the
poor lad by misunderstanding this excellent point.

Caught you with a planned loaded question. So you fully admit to being a

I like debating with you because you have nothing, absolutely nothing to
back your lies. And when confronted you immediately change the subject
and run or quote children's nursery rhymes. How adult is that?

If you were telling any "truth" (as you call it) at ALL, my printheads
should have failed long ago (many months ago). Yet I have proven that
that will NOT be the case for the foreseeable future because I have run
them under both heavy, and now, light use. And with light use, there's
even less risk of failure as I'm not stressing the nozzles. Perhaps now
you will go back in your shrinking OEM corner, mull over your dire
situation and basic argument, and decide that maybe people who use their
printers with MEDIUM use will suffer clogs. So, what's your next
decision, Watson? But no matter what you come up with, you'll be lying
because all my inks, regardless of source, have proven to perform every
bit as well as OEM inks. I have living proof in numerous, bright,
colorful and beautiful 8x10 prints hanging on my walls. I'm looking
right now at a pumpkin so bright I gotta wear shades . . .

I'm detaching my printers as we speak and weigh them on my bathroom

will have any effect on the operation of the printers. I'll get back to

A very very "heavy" printer is 2767A by Dataproducts, which I believe
was sold by HP. 160 pounds for something that wasn't more than 2feet
wide.

That's a "very very, very printer"
