aserjet 1100 Linux PClOS not printing
Posted by Fallsoff on March 24th, 2008

Hello,
I have an HP LaserJet 1100 printer, and the associated Dell C610 is
now running PClinuxOS 2007. It was printing fine. I did an OS
reinstall as part of the Linux-learning process and now I cant print.

[Feel free to send me to a Linux group!]

I had at that time also installed from Repository a full version of
CUPS, the Linux printing interface and also DLed the HP linux driver
at that time thinking to smooth and improve the interface. That was
2-3 weeks ago. The printer ceased working as a result. No joy on that
'great idea!'

I now have the same OS, [fresh install], but the disk has been zero-
filled and reformatted. I am using whatever drivers are in the PCLOS
interface. PCLOS is Mandrake-based.The printer is installed in the
Control Panel.

I am thinking that the print message gets to the printer and dies
there. It reacts slowly, but it does crank up a bit a few seconds
after control-P and then it dies.

I get a small green printer light, [there are one large and one
small]. I have paper, power, and a working cartridge.
The printer will usually click, then make the 'starting to feed paper'
sound and then wither away to silence.

Hopefully I am not polluting our Forum with the Linux issues, but do
think the problem is in the printer. Linux seems to be doing its job.
Thanks in advance,
