- blue shading for off white
- Posted by peter on August 12th, 2006
I have an HP Color LaserJet 4600. Anytime I have a photo that has some
off white shading in it, it has a blue tint on the off white area when
it prints. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Peter

First of all you need to check the printer by printing the demo and status
pages rom the printers panel.. If they are OK then the likelihood is that the
colour profiling in your application and/or driver needs to be adjusted, this
is not an area of expertise for me but some people that post here have lots of
information on the subject. If the demo page has a blue cast then you probably
need to change the cyan cartridge.

Thanks for your answer, Tony. The demo page seems to OK. I mainly
notice the blue tint only on areas where it supposed to be off white.
It happens from multiple applications. I've tried color managment on
the printer driver but I'm really just trying trial and error; I have
very limited experience with printer drivers. Anyway, thanks again.

Either reduce the overall color saturation or offset the blue by increasing
the yellow. This can usually be accomplished in either the printer driver or
print application. Be careful. Proper skin tone is what draws the eye.

Print from an application that supports colour profiling for printer output.
Tweak the profile until it comes right.
Non OEM refills can upset colour balance and produce colour casts,
due to one or two colours being less or more staurated than the OEM's.
Like the yellow may be too strong, or the magenta not strong enough.
You may also find that papers affect colour balance to some extent.

OK, thanks to both of you! I'll have to wait until work tomorrow to
try your suggestions.
