- Buying a printer and need help
- Posted by lordmajax on August 14th, 2003
I'm buying a printer through dell. I've found two so far they are epson900
and canon I550. I'm looking for a printer to print alot of school projects
which would generaly require black ink and also printing color pictures. I
have no need for a picture printer at all. I'm also looking for a 3
cartridge color part. That way if one gets used up I can just replace that
one. Thanks alot for the help

Also, I forgot I would like one that is quite while printing and has good
print speed and of course good dpi. I get confused by all the different
dpi's.

I would look at a Epson C82. It has great text(I get about 1150 pages
out of one cart) IMHO it smokes just about anything out there. I am a
heavy printer, I have never replaced more than 2 carts at one time..

I just purchased a I850 canon. I absolutely love it. It is very
versitle with the drivers. Text print to me is laser quality in
standard mode and better than alot of other inkjets ive seen in draft
mode.
It is very fast, very quiet and very economical on ink and easy to
refill. there is No chip to worry about resetting The I550 is ok but I
believe it does not have the super fine nozzles that the 450 , 850
and 950 have.
For a few dollars more the I850 would be the better all around
bargain. The borderless pictures I print are literally film lab
quality. Its simply amazing and fast. In super fine print mode, I can
not see one ink droplet on this paper with a 10x glass
I paid $138 shipped for mine. Locally it cost alot more plus tax.

I am convinced of the reputation of atlanticinkjet.com
I am awaiting my first order but I have trust that there will be no
trouble as one user has been using their refills for 6 months now with
an I850 and sees no difference in photos from canon ink or atlantic.
I was hoping it arrives today but nothing so far.
Of course you probably do not want to refill the same cartridges much
more than 3 times from what I heard the sponge may wear out and start
causing leaks at the exit port which sounds quite messy.
OH you are in the UK.. There are many UK users in here that would
point you to someone in your neck of the woods.

Strongly recommend atlanticinkjet.com, photo results are identical
to Canon and text shows no real difference either. I buy their 250ml
bulk bottles. Refilling all 4 cartridges costs me about $5, while a new
set of Canon cartridges, with two taxes, would set me back about $125.
I do not recommend cheap i850 cartridges from eBay; bought a set, text
was absolutely terrible. You're taking a gamble on eBay.
