Any tips on filling the BW cartridge for this printer would be appreciated,
it uses a BCI-24BK cartridge

DON'T, I tried after the originals ran out, I ended up buying a new print
head and two originals. The print head ended up ruined (it was only two
weeks old) let me know if you have any success.

I have refilled the color ink and black ink for a few times already. the
prints look the same as using the original Canon ink.

Make sure you refill the Ink *BEFORE* the cartridges run out, so that there
will be no air bubble at the bottom of the cartridges. You can also prevent
the ink from drying out.

Secondly use the ink specifically for the Canon Printer only.
