- Which canon 3e ink?
- Posted by Talal Itani on April 16th, 2007
I want to start using after-market ink for my canon i850 printer, which uses
3e ink. Two companies were recommended to me: MIS and AlotOfThings. Should
I fill my cartridges, or buy pre-filled cartridges. Please tell me about
your experience with this. Thank you very much.

Both MIS and AlotofThings focus on ink refills. Replacement inkjets
for the i850 printer are very widely available at such good prices
that having to refill cartridges is probably a waste of time, for very
little monetary savings. This is one of the cheapest generic inkjets
on the market, with millions sold annually. Vibrantink.com sells G &
G products at low prices and the return rate is practically nil.
According to neilslade.com/Papers/carts.html, G&G has one of the best
color matches to the Canon OEM, comparable to the MIS refills. MIS
cartridges use a different ink.

Note: 3e is a pigment.

G&G's BCI-3e is dye black ink and not pigment ink as specified by Canon.
It feathers on plain paper so text looks quite fuzzy and out of focus.
Plus it runs terribly upon contact with water drops. As such it is NOT
acceptable for quality work. If you're just printing emails and general
"garbage" in draft mode then I suppose the cheap dye BCI-3e will do.
G&G color dye inks are fine though.
I currently use black pigment ink in 8 oz bottles from
atlanticinkjet.com (separate US & Canadian divisions). And I like my
color inks (BCI-6) from hobbicolors.com (US).

I bought some Xprint Bk 3e for my ip4000 as I wanted some ink quick....
and it did just that. I knew about it when printing a CD it leaked and
blodged like the clappers... looks different when I looked at the tank
in a bright light as well.
You just can't trust anyone these day's, think moral is stick to a
reliable source like glue and forget about saving the odd dollar or
pound.

Just like I thought, generic ink does cause problems.
I told everyone about the relabelers and their business practices
notwithstanding the poor quality.
