- Canon 4500. Bypass the chips
- Posted by Yianni on May 26th, 2008
When I refill the Canon 4500 cartridges, how I could bypass the chips?
The method by pressing the paper button it doesn't work on Canon 4500.
Pressing the paper button makes the led stop light for a while, but what
about then?

Once you are getting the message that the ink is gone, press and hold the
paper button for at least 5 seconds to completely disable the ink monitor.

I have tried it. It doesn't work. The leds stop light for a little, the
power led stops too, but then the printer doesn't print.
I suspect because it's a new printer model (4500), they changed the method,
or needs an additional step (because the leds, -including the power on- stop
light showing a kind of "function").
Actually is a friend's printer, so I don't have the ability to try all
combinations.

I found what happened! The magenta chip (the only refilled cartridge) was
burned out. That's why the method didn't work. Using a oem magenta and a
refilled cyan the method worked. Now, the ink monitor doesn't show levels, I
suppose it is disabled.
