I'm having a problem with my 4 year old i850 printing on Canon Photo
Glossy Pro (CPGP) paper. I'm using Windows XP computer and it makes no
difference what software (Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, Paint Shop Pro
XI or etc.) I use to print the photos on CPGP. The print head on the
printer was replaced about 2 years ago. When I select the CPGP paper
type in the "Media Type" of the printer driver, it prints extremely
yellow. However if I select plain paper in the "Media Type" , even
though I'm printing on CPGP paper, the color is fine, but the print
image on the CPGP paper is not as sharp and the color is a bit dull
compared to the way it used to be a month or so ago, before the problem
started. Otherwise the printer seems to print fine.

Any ideas on correcting the problem short of replacing the printer?

Try changing all the color ink tanks. Also run a nozzle check to confirm
that all colors are printing correctly. Could be that you have some issue
with either the cyan or magenta.

cycle, a deep cleaning cycle, and then ran a nozzle check. The nozzle
check was not good. There were two colors missing altogether, the second
cyan and second magenta in the top section, as well as the D & E, and J
& K not printing in the lower sections. I ran another cleaning and deep
cleaning cycle and tried again, same thing.

So I'm guessing that my print head is not functioning properly and that
I need a new print head or a new printer???

Has the printer been sitting idle for an extended period of time? That
would produce clogs. If the problem is clogged nozzles and the cleaning
cycles didn't clear them you can often use undocumented cleaning techniques
to fix the problem. Go onto the Nifty-Stuff forum, click on FAQ at the top
of the page, go to the first FAQ on what to do when your printer doesn't
print properly, and see the various approaches to cleaning your printhead.
You can also look at a fairly recent thread on how to know if the printhead
has failed. Sometimes cleaning the contacts helps, but you have to be very
careful. I'd try some cleaning techniques before giving up! Nice to keep
these older Canon printers functioning.
