Canon i9900
Posted by Ben on April 7th, 2006

Hi
Does the Canon i9900 photo printer have a chip or something that prevents
you from using compatible cartridges or prevents you from using refilled
cartridges?

Thanks for any information.
Ben

Nope.

Hi Measekite
I was expecting a stupid reply from you. I'm glad I wasn't disappointed.
Best wishes

Actually on the i9900 we are talking about a printhead that doesn't
cost a heck of alot more than one for a lesser printer, so if clogging
trully was an issue.. just shell out that $80 to $120 for another
printhead. Given that OEM ink will cost you over $90... and
aftermarket bulk ink would cost you $10ish. You save enough money
after one refill that replacing the head afterwards is NO loss, and as
experenced with other users you can refill more than once without
clogging.

I'm not saying aftermarket is the best choice, but ruining it is NOT an
issue.

criminally expensive Canon cartridges. Refill ink from alotofthings.com
has worked flawlessly for me for 18 months now.

I've owned one since '03 and after the oem carts ran out (less than 2
weeks), I've used refillable carts since then.
Currently I'm using Hobbicolor with great results.
Don't listen to that lying moron.

IT IS TOO BAD THAT THE CANON INK COSTS SO MUCH BUT THERE IS NOT
ALTERNATIVE.

THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS THAT IF YOU ARE A VERY HIGH VOLUME USER THEN YOU
CAN TAKE A CHANCE THAT YOU MAY GET A FEW REFILLS BEFORE THE CLOG. IF
THAT IS THE CASE YOU BEAT THE SYSTEM. YOU STILL HAVE TO ACCEPT THE
SUBPAR QUALITY.

is, but no one else is). We are talking about refill ink, which is
clearly documented by most suppliers (including alotofthings.com)
including lot numbers for the ink, which is more than you get from
Canon. The quality is not sub-par. There are no reported instances of
clogging, only measly's inane ravings (he admits he has never used
aftermarket ink, just knows that it is evil 'cause the Pope or somebody
told him so!)

Please don't; you've made your point to the rest of the NG.

believing measly's bullshit. Those who have used quality refill ink know
it works very well. However, by misleading those who are new to
printing, he can cast dispersions on the idea of refilling, and lead
those who read this newsgroup to make costly mistakes when buying a
printer. The fact that you can refill cheaply and effectively is an
important consideration in choosing a printer. Canon printers can be
easily refilled, others are more difficult. Measley's rants can prevent
this vital information from being heard. A costly mistake could be made
by a printer buyer who was falsely led to believe that refilling is not
the way to go.

Two years ago he behaved like a civilized human most of the time, if a
tad obsessed. He didn't always type in all caps.

While I agree it's still somewhat important to refute some of his
clames some of the time, the happy medium between those who don't want
to see his drivel and your desire to spread useful info is to either
cut down his posts to nothing at all, paraphrase what he said, etc etc.
You'll find it results in him harassing you less, just randomly for no
real reason.

Accommodate those who don't wish to see his diatribe, frustrate
measekite. It's a win win situation.
