- Can't install HP LaserJet 2300 (d model) PCL6 driver in Windows 98 SE for USB connection
- Posted by ANTant@zimage.com on September 26th, 2003
Hi. It seems like this driver
(http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ndows+98&tech=)
cannot find the USB port (Epson Stylus 785EPX can with its USB driver
and it works). Is there a trick to get this printer drive to use the
USB driver? This is on a Toshiba Satellite 2655XDVD notebook. Also,
the printer is not hook up since it is at the office so I hope the
driver doesn't need the printer hooked up while installing the USB
printer driver.
Thank you in advance.

try reading the trick on their website, but it may be only an hint, it
didn't work for me until I reinstalled Windows. I just installed my
laserjet 1000 after 6 hours of tries. I reinstalled Windows XP on
itself and then picked usbprint.inf from the CD (you must expand it).

If the driver is installed and with the printer then connected, can you
access the port from the Ports tab in the printer properties, or install
a new port for USB from that dialog? Also, does the BIOS setup have a
setting for "Legacy USB" that can be toggled?

I don't know if Toshiba notebooks have the option for legacy USB. I do
know that Epson 785 EPX printer uses USB and has no problems.

Frederico, I still cannot find it. However, I did forget to mention that
I never got the CD that the Web site mentioned. Doesn't HP have
downloadable files that are similar to the CD drivers? I think that is
why I can't get USB. I got this printer from someone that didn't include
the CD(s).
