- Choosing new printer
- Posted by Peter on December 27th, 2003
I currently have an HP DJ 710C, now three years old, but is adequate for my
needs. I refill the cartridges as required.
The printer does now occasionally act up, paper feed not always working, and
paper rolling faster than the printheads.
I am looking at a replacement and as I now use XP pro, which does not
recognise my scanner, a printer / scanner looks like a good option.
My local computer shop recommends an Epson CX3200, and says that print costs
are cheaper than my current HP.
What opinions, thoughts can you guys give me?
TIA,
Peter H

What scanner are you using ?
I'm usin Umax Astra 600P.
On MS site I found info that XP won't support parallel scanners.
On Umax site I found no driver for XP, and some info that the scanner is not
XP compattible.
I'm using the scanner with the 610P driver built in XP and it works perfect
:-)
So, I can suggest you to try some other models from the same company
Good Luck,
Tal

That model is on its way out of production. I would look at the CX5400 or
the CX6400, or CX5200, all these models use individual carts and are very
cheap to run

Peter,
I purchased a Epson CX3200 for my Father-in-law to use mostly as a
copier. It has a few undesirable characteristics, in my opinion.
He just uses it mostly for BW copies, but after about ten average
color copies the color cartridge was giving warnings and then said it
was out of ink a few copies later. Then the machine would not even
make BW copies until the color cartridge was replaced.
Apparently you must have both cartridges in the machine and usable for
it to print at all. I feel that you should be able to make a BW copy
if there is ink in the black tank and the color tanks should be
irrelevant for that.
Also, the usage of black ink seems very high and the cost per average
BW page is about $0.20.
